desert cairn

We built this cairn while staying with Ian and Katie. It was summer in the sagebrush of Reno, NV and a wildfire raged over the distant ridge, smoke reducing visibility at times to about 100 feet. Tensions were high, wondering if they would need to evacuate suddenly, and if so, what they would do with their horse, mules, and donkeys. Luckily, the fire was contained and we were able to remain put on their property. This cairn is tall and thin and in reflection, resembles many of the trees burning while we were building, encapsulating the somber, anxious summer during fire season.
