stone stories
these are some of the stone projects we’ve completed over the years and their stories. we love them, and hope you do too

gathering wall
it was the rhythmic movement of the wind through the open fields that inspired the look and feel...

fairy stairs
over 30 stairs up a woodland notch in a whimsical section of natural ledge on the coast of Lake Champlain...

passage
we were drawn to the idea of passage–the passage of time, the passing down of heirlooms, the passing through the gates...

stone arch bridge
originally built in 1910 by local mason James Otis Follett. This restoration project aimed to preserve the structural and historical integrity of this remarkable bridge...

woven stone haven
a network of intersecting stone walls, designed to guide movement and define distinct spaces across the property...

celestial circle
anchored around a central firepit. Stone markers represent the cardinal directions while a granite moongate frames a viewpoint from the stone bench, through the fire, and beyond the circle to the distant mountains...

bird flight wall
drawing from the flight patterns of birds—how they dip, glide, and flap their wings—the top of the stone wall was designed to mimic these movements. The result is a playful, undulating wall that appears to dance through the space...

ledge garden
what started as a retaining wall and stair project evolved into something even more special when we uncovered a stunning natural ledge hidden beneath the surface...

field orb
surrounded by tall grass on all sides. This building site was breezy and peaceful and partially responsible for our company’s name...

raised
they had a design for a planter in mind, and loved the idea of a little weirdness added in. Folly-esque and vaguely ruinous...

sky bed
whether used for cloud watching during the day or stargazing under a blanket of stars, this space provides a peaceful retreat to soak in the beauty of the sky above...

ledge stairs
the steps led you up a beautiful ledge, hugged trees along the way, and guided you to a special distant view of Camel's Hump at the top...

desert cairn
surrounded by the vast sagebrush of Reno, NV. It was summer, and the landscape stretched in soft hues of ochre, rust, and sage. This cairn stands as a reflection of the desert...

mill stones & crystal gumdrops
one of the wildest stones we’ve come across hidden in the mound of wall material, a piece of white quartz protruding like a gumdrop from a chunk of river stone...

woodland cairns
three conical cairns that form an isosceles triangle that points north. We added a through stone across the top of the largest cairn, the sides of which form altars for nature treasures found on walks...

memory garden wall
a memorial garden that included a little niche to leave offerings or special items...

thank you cairn
apparently, the cairn is a bunny magnet...

easy on you
inspired by the landscape, artifacts, and message behind Marcie Hernandez's music video Easy On Me...

wedding cairns
when the ranch-owning, mule-loving groom invites you over to “get ready” with him before the wedding, don’t be surprised if he asks you to do some light stonework, too...

maple stump
we added one more stump from stone, with a mossy, living core...
